Community Involved Tourism Pa-O Region (CITPAR)


We would like to proudly introduce CITPAR, Community Involved Tourism Pa-O Region. CITPAR focuses on the people who live in the Pa-O region and contributes job opportunities, creating sustainable income for the communities. 65% of CITPAR’s income goes directly to local staff and participating villages. Currently, four Pa-O villages are involving in CITPAR and offering trekking, hiking and other adventure tour services. Pa-O region is in part of the Southern Shan State and mainly showcase legacies of ancient cultures, places for rest & relaxation, well preserved forests and mountains with natural beauty embedded in a rich cultural tradition.

Nyaung Shwe – Lwe Khaw – Maingthauk (Trek Only)

From Nyaung Shwe take a Tuk Tuk to the trekking starting point near Kanne reservoir. Then walk up through several plantations such as grape, turmeric, corn, cheroot leave and avocado to Lwekhaw village. On the way, take a rest at the top of mountain for enjoy the panoramic view overlooking Inle lake and its environment.

A traditional style lunch will be served at Lwekhaw community house by the villagers. After lunch, walk around Lwekhaw (CBT project village) to observe the way of life of Pa‐O ethnic group and descend along trails (rocky at the beginning) to Maingthauk village, passing through sugar cane plantations. From Maingthauk bridge return to your hotel by boat.

Distance = 20 km Walking Hour = 5 hrs (approximate)

Trek Condition = 30% up, 35% down & 35% flat

Inle (Maingthauk) – Inne – Thale Oo (Trek Only)

Trekking starting point is at Maingthauk Bridge, on the eastern shore of the lake. The tour is a day‐trek to the summit of the blue and hazy mountain range on the eastern bank of Inle Lake. Visit the traditional Pa‐O village of Inne (CBT project village). The village is located about 12 km from Inle Lake. On the way enjoy the beauty of nature, the Tawya (forest) monastery and seasonal terrace crop plantations.

Lunch will be served with Pa‐O food at Inne community house by the villagers. After lunch, explore the village and study the local life‐style. Return back to Inle Lake by descending the slopes, passing through bamboo forests and paddy fields then proceed to Thale Oo village. Return back to your hotel by boat.

Inle – Hti‐Ne – Inle (Trek Only)

Starting point is at Magyikone boat jetty. Walk through different plantations to Moekaung village. After a short break, proceed to Donethakaw village and its natural water spring. Then walk up to Hti‐Ne (CBT project village), where we get to a view point. Relax and enjoy the panoramic view over the way we came and Inle Lake. Have lunch at Hti‐Ne’s community house with Pa‐O traditional food.

After lunch, descend to Pa‐O, Shan and Inthar villages, than walk on the plain up to Yeacho village and Nampan jetty. Things to see on the way are teak woods, sugar cane, cheroot leaves and turmeric plantation. Return back to your hotel by boat.


Distance = 24 km Walking Hour = 7:00 hrs (approximate)

Trek condition = 15% up, 15% down & 70% flat

Nyaung Shwe – Lwekhaw – Lwelem – Minethauk (Trek Only)

Day 1 : From Nyaung Shwe take a TukTuk to the trekking starting point near Kanne reservoir. Then walk up through several plantations such as grape, turmeric, corn, cheroot leave and avocado to Lwekhaw. On the way, take a rest at the top of mountain to enjoy the panoramic view overlooking Inle Lake and its environment. A traditional style lunch will be served at Lwekhaw community house by the villagers. After lunch, go sightseeing around Lwekhaw (CBT project village) and walk up Lwekhaw Mountain, culminating at an altitude of 1520m above sea level. The mountain is being conserved as community forest and you can discover various kinds of birds. The sunset view can be enjoyed when you reach to the top of the mountain. After dinner, the villagers will entertain you by playing their traditional musical instruments and showing you their ways of dancing.

Distance = 10 km, Walking Hour = 4hrs (approximate)

Trek condition = 60% up & 40% flat



Day 2 : After breakfast, we will leave from the community house at 9:00 AM to Pongtel village. You can stroll around that village and have a chat with local families to experience their way of life. Continue to Lwelem village for lunch. Tea, orange, avocado, and turmeric plantations can be seen on along the trek. Thereafter, walk down a rocky trail from Lwelem to Maingthauk Bridge and return to your hotel by boat
